Recently, we had the privilege of hosting Dr. Ophir Fromovich, the inventor of the world's most popular dental implants, Nobel Active and Straumann BLX. Dr. Fromovich is an innovator in the field of dental implant design, and his contributions have greatly impacted the way we practice as clinicians and the enjoyment of our patients.
Dr. Fromovich developed multiple implant styles over the years, but it was the Nobel Active that truly set him apart. This implant was the most advanced of its time and has become the world's most sold and copied implant. More recently, he introduced the Straumann BLX, which is a new addition to the Straumann line and is quickly gaining popularity for its effectiveness in immediate loading.
One interesting aspect of Dr. Fromovich's background is that he is not a surgeon, but rather has a background in orthodontics. This unique perspective has allowed him to approach dental implant design from a different angle and has contributed to his success.
I have known Dr. Fromovich for many years, since the introduction and pilot studies of the Nobel Active. He has always been interested in immediate loading and was never a fan of the concept of Zygoma implants due to their poor results and invasiveness. However, after seeing my Zygoma-Plus technique at various conferences, his first words to me were "it's just common sense...there can be no other way to do Zygoma". It was then that he decided to travel halfway around the world to attend our All-On-4 & Zygoma Residency in Melbourne.
We couldn't let him leave without giving a lecture, and to our surprise and delight, he was kind enough to share his experience and insights with us and our other participants. It was a true honor to host such a renowned innovator in our clinic and provide our attendees with a special surprise.
As a practitioner in the field of dental implants, I am always looking for ways to improve and learn from the best. Hosting Dr. Fromovich was a fantastic opportunity to do just that and we are grateful for the knowledge and expertise he shared with us.
